Project

Tackling Gender-Based Violence in Gaza

This project, funded through IIED’s Urban Humanitarian Crises accountable grant, seeks to explore the relationships between occupation violence and sexual and gender-based violence (GBV) in the Gaza strip within the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

Co-led by Jean-Pierre Tranchant and Catherine Mueller, the project will address the following research questions:

  1. Is there a link between occupation violence and domestic violence? And if so, through which channels?
  2. How do the current protection efforts by humanitarian actors help in alleviating the risk that women and girls suffer from domestic violence? How could they be improved?

In order to answer the research questions, this project will use mixed methods including quasi-experimental econometric techniques and wide-ranging qualitative methods with key stakeholders.
