After three decades of progress in improving child welfare, there was a marked reversal in many parts of the world in the 1980s, associated with the deteriorating economic situation. This study illustrates the extent of the crisis and indicates ways to avoid or alleviate the ill-effects of economic adjustment on vulnerable groups.
