Scapepigging: H1N1 Influenza in Egypt

Published on 1 January 2010

This chapter is an empirical case study of the garbage collectors’ community after the culling of their pigs in Egypt in 2009.

It contrasts government policy of the elimination of their livelihoods in the name of “health and science” with garbage collectors’ own narratives to show the disjuncture between the evidence and the policies
