Stephen’s research aims to understand how local and global perspectives on the causes of conflict and peace interact during peace negotiations, how power shapes these interactions, and how dominant discourses emerge from them that enable and constrain peacebuilding agency. His research explores the case of Myanmar.

Stephen is also the director of the NGO Adapt Peacebuilding, which applies complex systems approaches to support peace processes in societies emerging from conflict. Adapt implements programs together with its partners in Myanmar, Colombia, and Spain, and advises clients globally on peacebuilding innovation.
