The BRICS in International Development Beijing book launch

13 December 2016 15:00–15:30

2nd floor, Wanzhong Building, National School of Development, Peking University

The BRICS nations have increasing influence on global trade and on the ways in which universal challenges, such as energy and security, are addressed, including providing much-needed finance. In the context of the inaugural conference of the Global Research Consortium on Economic Structural Transformation, the Centre for Rising Powers and Global Development is pleased to welcome the conference attendees to a discussion on the role of the BRICS in global development.

The analysis originates from the most recent publication edited by international development experts Jing Gu, Alex Shankland, and Anuradha Chenoy, entitled The BRICS in International Development.

This book presents a cutting-edge analysis of the broader geopolitical shifts, distinctive ideologies and normative discourses that are influencing and informing the BRICS engagement in increasingly ambitious joint projects. It offers a comprehensive comparative perspective on the increasingly significant development cooperation activities of the BRICS, providing a powerful set of insights into the drivers for engagement within each country.

The discussion will be led by:

  • Justin Yifu Lin, Director of the Centre for New Structural Economics at Peking University (CNSE)
  • Dr. K.Y. Amoako, Director, African Centre for Economic Transformation
  • Maddalena Procopio, Research Officer at the Centre for Rising Powers and Global Development (CRPD)

A discount code is available at the launch for the purchase of the book.
