Charley Howman

Doctoral Researcher

Charley started her PhD at IDS in September 2022. She holds an MA in Global Development and MSc in Social Research Methods. Charley’s research centres on protracted displacement in urban settings, its realities, and the role and importance of community-led social protection and support. She is supervised by Dolf te Lintelo and Jeremy Lind.

Charley has spent most of the last decade working in the international development and humanitarian sectors, working for donors, national and international organisations, including 6 years at the UK Department for International Development (now FCDO). During this time Charley has worked on global programmes and on multi-sectoral policy and programme delivery, including in Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan and South Sudan.
