This special section of the European Journal of Development Research focuses on the relationship between science, technology and development. The papers published in this section edition were first presented at the 2007 Development Studies Association Conference,1 co-hosted by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) and the Economic and Social Research Council STEPS (Social, Technological and Environmental Pathways to Sustainability) Centre at the University of Sussex, Brighton.
