About the speaker:
On completing an MA at Sussex University in Urban and Regional Studies/Development Economics, Geoffrey began his career as an economist of a large multi-national consultancy company. The major clients were World Bank, Asia Development Bank and the British Government. Geoffrey was responsible for the economic and financial evaluation of large development programmes particularly in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Geoffrey was promoted to main Board Director of this multi-national company. In 1992, he became International Director of the British Red Cross based in London. Geoffrey was responsible for running relief operations in Rwanda, Somalia, former Yugoslavia and several other parts of Africa and Asia.
During his time as International Director, he was seconded to be Country Director for the International Federation of the Red Cross for DPR Korea (North Korea). He was then promoted to be Regional Director for the whole of South Asia for the International Federation of the Red Cross.
In 2004 Geoffrey became Chief Executive of CARE International’s operation in the UK, and he is also now on the Board and Executive Committee for CARE International globally. In 1999 he was awarded a National Award for Excellence because of his work for the Red Cross in India and on leaving the British Red Cross he was awarded the Badge of Honour for Distinguished Service.
