Announcing the fifth cohort of social science and humanitarian fellows

The Social Science in Humanitarian Action Platform (SSHAP) – a partnership between the Institute of Development Studies, Anthrologica, Gulu University, Le Groupe D’etudes Sur Les Conflits Et La Sécurité Humaine (GEC-SH), London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and University of Juba, CRCF Senegal, University of Ibadan and the Sierra Leone Urban Research Centre – has announced the fifth cohort of its SSHAP Fellowship.

Introducing the fifth cohort of SSHAP fellows

The Fellowship, which begins on 5 May 2023, involves networking opportunities, and technical training for social scientists and humanitarian practitioners working in low- and middle-income countries. After receiving a record 1,940 complete applications, the following 12 individuals have been selected:

South Asia

  • Sudha Thomas (Assistant Professor, Christ Deemed to be University, Bengaluru)
  • Adimai Siromany Valan (Medical epidemiologist, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, New Delhi)

East Africa

  • Marie Consolatrice Sage Ishimwe (Lecturer, University of Global Health Equity, Kigali)
  • Ronald Kasule (Disability Inclusion Specialist, United Nations Population Fund, Kampala)

Middle East and North Africa

  • Mamoon Al Absi (Senior Field Assistant, United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Yemen)
  • Watfa Najdi (Refugee Research Program Coordinator, Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs, Beirut)

Southern Africa

  • Cephas Mandirahwe (Lecturer, Midlands State University, Zimbabwe)
  • Saphira Munthali-Mulemba (Study Manager, Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia)

West Africa

  • Ene Abba Ijato (Communications and advocacy practitioner)
  • Samuel Bewiadzi Akakpo (Lecturer and Medical Anthropologist, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana)

Latin America and Caribbean

  • Alexandre Branco-Pereira (Anthropologist, National Front for Migrant Health)

East Asia and Pacific

  • Lavinia Dakei (Country Coordinator, Oxfam, Solomon Islands)
