Social protection consists of policies and programmes aimed at preventing, and protecting people against, poverty, vulnerability, and social exclusion throughout their life cycle placing a particular emphasis on vulnerable groups (SPIAC-B, 2019, P-1). It plays a critical role in reducing poverty and inequality, in supporting inclusive economic growth, as a base for equitable food systems and good nutrition.
Through this knowledge partnership with WFP, IDS has been providing technical support as needed on various social protection themes and contexts. These include: supporting the design and implementation of social protection programs and strategies, developing frameworks and evidence, training and e-learning, documenting best practice within WFP programmes and contributing technical guidance and research to a range of cutting edge issues including shock-responsive and nutrition-sensitive social protection.
