Brazil’s global engagements in the fight against hunger: from South-South cooperation to the G20

9 May 2024 13:00–14:30

Institute of Development Studies Room 221 and online on Zoom.

This seminar delves into Brazil’s multifaceted engagement with international development, with specific reference to the hunger agenda.

Watch at 1pm

It will examine Brazil’s evolving strategies, partnerships, and its impact on the global stage. The seminar will start by tracing the trajectory of Brazil’s development cooperation, outlining its main features, stages and modalities of engagement. It will then explore the pivotal role that addressing food insecurity and hunger has played within this trajectory, both domestically and internationally, through a range of diverse channels. The seminar will then offer a reflective examination of Brazil’s latest high-profile initiative, the Global Alliance Against Poverty and Hunger. This initiative serves as a focal point for discussion of Brazil’s global influence in a context of ineffective multilateralism, corporate capture and multistakeholderism.
