IDS vacancy: Research Fellow – Knowledge, Impact and Policy Cluster

Published on 14 February 2023

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is looking for a new full-time Research Fellow for our Knowledge, Impact and Policy (KIP) Cluster. This is an exciting opportunity to join IDS in a new research and leadership role that will bring together the theory and practice of knowledge for development.

The IDS building with a bright blue sky behind it.

You will lead our Knowledge, Impact and Policy Cluster, comprising of Research Communications, Knowledge Management, Monitoring Evaluation and Learning and Publishing teams. Your own research will explore knowledge mobilisation processes in low- and medium-income country settings and you will contribute to teaching and professional development to enhance the impact of the Institute.

The successful candidate may come from a political science, sociology, or science communications background, with expertise in one or more sectors in which they have promoted the equitable mobilisation of knowledge for development. We are open to applications from other disciplines and backgrounds, especially where applicants have direct experience of engaging research evidence with practice in low-income settings and have conducted applied research in this field.

We are seeking someone who will build bridges between IDS’ established professional work, in which we communicate and broker knowledge and evaluate its impact, and an interdisciplinary research agenda on the politics of evidence use. The successful candidate will need to have published research that explores the relationship between evidence and policy or practice, as well as having the skills and competences required to provide strategic leadership to a broad portfolio of programme work and support to its professional staff.

James Georgalakis, IDS Director of Evidence and Impact says:
‘The new leader of our Knowledge, Impact and Policy Cluster will be central to the delivery of our strategic priority to champion evidence for social and environmental justice. You will achieve this through both your leadership of the Cluster and your own applied research and learning’.
